Scribe are excited to announce that we have acquired rights in four titles: The Ice-Cream Makers and Giovanna’s Navel by Ernest van der Kwast, and books three and four in Nadia Dalbuono’s ‘Leone Scamarcio’ series: The Hit and The Extremist.
The Ice-Cream Makers centres on an Italian ice-cream dynasty in a group of villages in far northern Italy. Giovanni, the eldest son in the Talamini family, decides to break with tradition to pursue a literary career, but his younger brother Luca approaches him with an unusual request. According to Noordhollands Dagblad, Ernest van der Kwast’s fourth novel is ‘a book that sweeps you along like an avalanche’.
Scribe acquired world English rights from Dutch publisher De Bezige Bij. The Ice-Cream Makers will be published in June 2016, and Giovanna’s Navel, a novella, is due out in 2017.
Kerryn Goldsworthy described Nadia Dalbuono’s first Leone Scamarcio thriller The Few as ‘a professional and confident foray into the realms of crime fiction’. The Hit and The Extremist will follow the release of The American in September 2015, and will see Detective Scamarcio — the son of a former leading mafioso and a member of the Rome police force — tasked with two new cases: the mysterious disappearance of a woman and her son following a traffic accident, and a hostage crisis unfolding at Rome’s Spanish Steps.
Scribe acquired world rights in both novels from Curtis Brown in the UK. The Hit will be published in October 2016, and The Extremist will follow in October 2017.
