DOWNLOAD CLASSROOM RESOURCES FOR WHO’S YOUR REAL MUM?

Together with Reading Rocks, Scribble has developed teaching materials for use within a Key Stage 1 classroom to support the delivery of the Relationships Education curriculum. The classroom resources, suitable for ages 5-7, are based around the picture book Who’s Your Real Mum? written by Bernadette Green and illustrated by Anna Zobel.

The pack contains four lessons. These lessons can be delivered as a series, in whichever order you prefer, or as one-off lessons. Between games, drawing exercises, group activities and questions, the resource helps children understand that:

  • Families are important for children growing up because they can give love, security and stability
  • Others’ families sometimes look different from their family, but that they should respect those differences and know that other children’s families are also characterised by love and care
  • Stable, caring relationships, which may be of different types, are at the heart of happy families, and are important for children’s security as they grow up

Who’s Your Real Mum?

A BIG ISSUE BOOK OF THE YEAR

A beautifully illustrated story, written with a light and humorous touch, that celebrates nontraditional families and captures exactly what lies at the heart of family life — love.

‘Elvi, which one is your mum?’
‘They’re both my mum.’
‘But which one’s your real mum?’

When Nicholas wants to know which of Elvi’s two mums is her real mum, she gives him lots of clues. Her real mum is a circus performer, and a pirate, and she even teaches spiders the art of web.

But Nicholas still can’t work it out! Luckily, Elvi knows just how to explain it to her friend.
