Scribble to publish Nina Simone picture-book biography

Children's picture book imprint Scribble is thrilled to be publishing Nina, a powerful biography of Nina Simone, from bestselling author Traci N.Todd and award-winning illustrator Christian Robinson, this October. UK rights were acquired by Scribble's publisher Miriam Rosenbloom from Penguin Random House North America.

Nina: a story of Nina Simone is an illuminating and defining biography that tells the story of Eunice Waymon, who grew up to become Nina Simone - and shares her bold, defiant, and exultant legacy with a new generation. Beginning with a young Eunice, who sang before she could talk, this gorgeous picture book takes its readers on a journey from the piano stool she shared with her father in her childhood home, to the bars and concert halls where she became the one and only Nina Simone.

Along the way you learn about Nina's vital role in the Civil Rights Movement, singing in protest against racial inequality and discrimination. With rhytmic prose and masterful images, Nina perfectly demonstrates the relationship between art and activism.

Traci N. Todd is a bestselling author and children's book editor currently living in Queens.

Christian Robinson received a Caldecott Honor and Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor for his art in Last Stop on Market Street. He is the author and illustrator of the picture books Another and You Matter, and he has illustrated many more, including Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex's The Bench.
