DiscoverWe are delighted to share that we have acquired the new collection by the 'godmother of flash fiction' (Paris Review) Diane Williams, titled I Hear You're Rich.
Williams has been described as ‘A true living hero of the American avant-garde’ by Jonathan Franzen, and ‘One of the very few contemporary prose writers who seem to be doing something independent, energetic, heartfelt.’ by Lydia Davis. Her work has appeared in Granta, London Review of Books, and The White Review, and she's been profiled by The New Yorker and The New York Times.
I Hear You're Rich is her eleventh collection, and was acquired from Hannah Whitaker of Rights People, on behalf of Soho Press, by publisher Molly Slight.
Slight said: ‘Sharply observed, sly, funny, irreverent, and suffused with utterly recognisable and often confronting truths about human nature, Diane Williams’ short stories — many no more than a page — have earned her the well deserved label “the godmother of flash fiction”. Her fans include Jonathan Franzen, Rumaan Alam, Hernán Diaz, Merve Emre, and Sam Lipsyte — to name a few — as well as Lydia Davis, who Williams publishes regularly in her magazine NOON. I was completely hooked on this collection from the very first page, totally enamoured with how Williams’ manages to say so much so succinctly. Each line brims with subtext; not a single word, or even punctuation mark, is wasted. I cannot wait to reunite existing UK fans with Williams’ work and introduce her to many new readers when we publish in August.’
