Thomas Rid at Daunt Books

Thomas Rid will discuss his book Rise of the Machines with Gorden Corera at Daunt Books Marylebone on Thursday 16th March.

Thomas Rid’s revelatory history of cybernetics, Rise of the Machines, takes us on a fascinating journey from the impact of radar and pilotless bombs in WW2, to today’s CCTV and cyber-wars. Along the way we meet the thinkers and visionaries who shaped this new world. We are placed in the hands of a master story-teller, and the story he tells is as much about the way information technology shapes our behaviour, hopes and fears as about the technology itself. Thomas will be joined by Gordon Corera, the BBC’s Security Correspondent, whose latest book is Intercept - The Secret History of Computers and Spies.
