Guest House for Young Widows by Azadeh Moaveni has been shortlisted for The Baillie Gifford Prize 2019. Publishing 10 October, Guest House for Young Widows is a deeply reported account of the women who made a shocking decision: to leave their comfortable lives behind and join the Islamic State.

The Baillie Gifford Prize rewards excellence in non-fiction writing, bringing the best in intelligent reflection on the world to new readers. It covers all non-fiction in the areas of current affairs, history, politics, science, sport, travel, biography, autobiography and the arts.

The winner of the 2019 prize will be announced on Tuesday 19 November at an awards dinner at the Science Museum.
