The Wolf and the Watchman longlisted for 2013 National Book Award

We are delighted to announce that Scott Johnson's riveting memoir about growing up as the son of a CIA spy, The Wolf and the Watchman, has been longlisted in the non-fiction category of the US's National Book Awards. We are especially delighted because its route there has been a rather unusual one.

Acquired by Scribe's publisher, Henry Rosenbloom, and edited by nonfiction editor Julia Carlomagno with input from freelance editor Nicola Redhouse, The Wolf and the Watchman was first published in Australia in July 2012. Scribe acquired UK rights, and subsequently US rights, when the book failed to find a publisher in these territories, and we published it via Scribe UK just this month. We'd previously sold US rights to W W Norton, who published their edition in May 2013. So a notable book by an American author about an American subject made its way to the US via Australia!
